accessibility

We want everyone to feel able to come to our groups. This page explains what to expect, so you can plan your visit. If anything here doesn’t meet your needs, or you have any questions, please get in touch. You don’t need to explain why.

Where we meet

  • Our groups meet in Room 14 at the Creighton Centre, 378 Lillie Road, London SW6 7PH.
  • The main entrance has a push-button automatic door.
  • Room 14 is on the ground floor, straight ahead as you come in.
  • The doorway into Room 14 is narrow, so the room is not currently wheelchair accessible. If you use a wheelchair or have limited mobility, please get in touch before your visit so we can talk through what’s possible.
  • The centre has fully accessible, gender-neutral toilets.

Getting there

There is a bus stop right outside the centre, with buses to Hammersmith, Putney, Shepherds Bush, White City, South Kensington and the West End. The nearest tube stations are Hammersmith and Barons Court, both about a 12-minute walk.

Hammersmith station (District and Piccadilly lines) has step-free access via lifts from the main entrance on Hammersmith Broadway. On the District line it’s step-free onto the train; on the Piccadilly line there may be a step or gap. Barons Court station has stairs only.

If you have a Blue Badge, you can park for free in pay and display and residents’ bays on the streets around the centre, and on yellow lines for up to three hours (unless there’s a loading ban). Remember to display your badge and clock.

For step-by-step directions with photos, see our How to find us (PDF) guide.

At the group

  • Please try to arrive a few minutes before the start time, so you have time to settle in. For some groups, we can’t let people join once the session has started, as this can be disruptive for others. Check the group’s information sheet or ask us if you’re not sure.
  • If you need to step out for a break or leave early, that’s fine. Please do so quietly, so the group can carry on.
  • You don’t have to talk. Listening is always fine.
  • The Creighton Centre is a shared space used by lots of different groups, so please be mindful of others while you’re there.
  • Support workers and companions are welcome. As space in our room is limited, please let us know in advance if someone will be coming with you.
  • At Outside the Box, we can show live captions of what’s being said on the TV in the room, and our sensory toolkit of fidget toys is always out. At our other groups, just ask the facilitator if you’d like to use the toolkit.

Our Arriving for a group: what to expect (PDF) guide shows you the entrance, reception and Room 14, and explains what happens when you arrive.

What we can’t offer yet

As a new organisation, we share space at the centre and have limited funding. At the moment we can’t offer a dedicated quiet area or make changes to the room (such as lighting, temperature or layout). Our sensory toolkit only has fidget toys, so we can’t provide ear defenders or other sensory items at any of our groups. You’re very welcome to bring anything that helps you feel comfortable, such as your own ear defenders, headphones or sunglasses.

We’re working on improving this as we grow, so if there’s something that would make a difference for you, please tell us.

Asking for adjustments

If something would make it easier for you to come, just let us know before your visit by emailing gyrecollective@gmail.com. You’re also welcome to send us an access rider, a short note about what you need.

Other formats

Our information sheets are available as PDFs. If you’d find another format easier, just ask: we can send you a plain text or Word version, large print, a printed copy, or a copy on coloured paper. We’re also happy to talk you through any of the information by phone or video call, especially before your first visit. If you need something else, such as Easy Read, an audio version or another language, please let us know and we’ll do our best to help.
